You can always just disable status monitor entirely. I turned mine off ages ago since it prevents me from starting the process of printing nozzle checks without loading paper first. On the driver its inside one of those buttons on the tab full of buttons in the driver. Is it possible that it is meant to stay on at some point, until the maintenance tank is taken care of? The status monitor rings and sounds the alarm on both computers reporting an unusable maintenance cartridge whenever the printer is not on, and I actually have to force it to quit.
I also had to uninstall and reinstall the driver on the PC, when it stopped "seeing" the printer. The and Epson's support has been terrific. Some of Epson's software a little less so. I take it that you know how to replace the absorbent material in the tank and reset the chip. Doing this the cost is so minimal that it's easier to do than worry about status monitor. Can anyone else address the benefits or "fits" of uninstallling SM. If this is the same Epson monitor that comes with the , then it also gives you access to the print logs. For me this is useful information about ink consumption on different papers and for different types of print.
Thanks, Kristain, that's actually what I have been doing. I suppose reinstalling the software is the ultimate answer. It actually looks like the status monitor is not staying on now. So it's possible it was just an anomaly that has taken care of itself.

I certainly know how to close or otherwise force an application to quit, on both the Mac and the PC, but over many years of computer use, have had reason to be apprehensive about software that shows symptoms of faulty programing. I just bought a new and haven't discovered info on how to reset the waste ink tank chip yet. Can you clue me in? I already know how to replace the absorbent material, but could use a source for buying the material. Any suggestions? Thanks, David G.

Paper towels work fine. I myself use actual cotton terrycloth towels from those cheapo bags of 'car washing' towels you get from car stores. Doing the actual reset will require buying a chip resetter on ebay or elsewhere which can both reset cartridges and waste tanks.
